A Wrinkle in Time – Madeleine L’Engle

I always feel a little bad when I think that I am supposed to love a book…and I do not. That’s the case for me here with Madeleine L’Engle‘s classic novel.

Meg is a math genius who is always in trouble at the local high school. Her father, on a secret mission, has been MIA for quite some time. A visit from a fascinating stranger on a dark and stormy night propels Meg and her brother Charles Wallace to go on a time traveling adventure to find their missing dad. They are accompanied by Calvin, a classmate who randomly just shows up, and three magical guides. I liked the story, I didn’t love it. I wanted the characters to be more real to me; they were all decidedly one-note. I am way more excited about the movie version; I love Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling, and I would imagine they will bring this story to life for me.

Maybe I should have read this book as a youth. Have any of you reread it? Is it a new love or are you just getting the warm fuzzies from reading a childhood favorite?
