The Wood Street Sandwich – Wood Street Grill – Punta Gorda

This lazy-named sandy is from the fine folks at the Wood Street Grill in Punta Gorda. The World’s Best Husband took me to Miami for my birthday so that I could watch my favorite team, the North Carolina Tar Heels, play the Miami Hurricanes. We looked for a place to golf and have lunch half-way between Tampa and Miami. After having the best golf day of my life (on the planet’s easiest course), we headed over to the Wood Street Grill for lunch. A small amount of research led us to this restaurant, based on several favorable reviews. This nondescript restaurant sits in a strip mall in Punta Gorda. The amount of friendly and scrumptious food that came out of the kitchen was borderline shocking. We ordered our food at the counter and grabbed one of the few tables outside. Before I could make it all the way outside, I was offered a sample of the day’s soup: a tomato bisque with housemade garlic croutons. Yes, please.
As a side order, we opted for the sweet potato fries with Louisiana Ranch Sauce. (Read: Spicy+Creamy+Goodness.)

Spencer, who loves the pizza like I love the sandwiches, went for the grilled (wait for it) Wood Street Pizza: spinach, bacon, garlic, and mozzarella. Incredibly fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked.

My grilled Wood Street on rye was a delightful combination of turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, 1000 Island, and slaw. I am a big fan of slaw on my sandy. The folks here obviously know what they are doing. It came with a pasta salad that was actually pretty flavorful. (I usually find pasta salads bland at most places.)

We were so lucky that we found this grill. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend it. My Tar Heels were spanked by the Canes, with LeBron James and I in attendance. Luckily, I had the memory of this meal and my golf score to comfort me.
