Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn

Gillian Flynn is the author of this fascinating tale of marriage gone horribly wrong.  Flynn’s writing style is fast-paced, quick witted, and acerbic to the highest degree.  I could not put this book down!  We meet and fall in love with Nick Dunne, a hot and brilliant southern boy (I kept picturing Mark Sanchez of the NY Jets with a southern accent…I watch way too much sports) and his perfect, confidant, equally gorgeous wife Amy.   They are living the big city dream in NYC, until life events transpire and  take them to Missouri.  They take turns telling their version of the union.  According to Amy, “Isn’t that the point of every relationship: to be known by someone else, to be understood? He gets me……Isn’t that the simple magic phrase?”   Then the marriage takes some super negative twists and turns, and Amy ends up Gone.  I basically can’t say anything else, because everything I am thinking reads *SPOILER*.  If you like suspense and true crime genres, this is the book for you.  Bonus points for the piquant conversations between Nick and his twin sister Go (love that nick name for Margo).  Double bonus points for the Duran Duran reference during one of these chats.  Gone Girl is shocking, modern, and filled with an inordinate amount of unexpected plot twists.   I am looking forward to reading Ms. Flynn’s other novels…and waiting patiently for my friends (including my very own Amy) to finish it so I can actually discuss this book.

  1. I had the same problem when I finished – I was waiting for everyone else so we could discuss the ending. My book club had a great time discussing this book!
