A Gentleman in Moscow- Amor Towles

I absolutely loved this book by Amor Towles. It may be the perfect end to my greatest reading year ever. (I may have time to sneak one more book in, time will tell!)

Count Alexander Rostov is ordered to spend the rest of his days in a luxury hotel in Moscow. His crime? Being a gentleman and an intellect in Russia in the early 1900s. The Count will also go down in history as one of my all-time favorite characters. He is filled with humor, wit, and pain. He builds an extraordinary life for himself within the confines of the hotel. The word choice and historical context were near perfection.

“But Fate would not have the reputation it has if it simply did what it seemed it would do.”

My husband brought me no less than five tissues as I finished the book. The ambiguous ending left me a little unsatisfied, but that is small potatoes compared to the impeccability of the rest of the story. I can’t wait to get my hands on the author’s first book, Rules of Civility.

Happiness is...reading a fantastic book and listening to The Doc play piano.
