2013-My Favorite Reads and Eats from the Last Year

As I look back on 2013, my goals for the new year are clear: Read more, eat less, and travel the same amount. As always, I count on you, Glorious Reader, to point me in the direction of quality books and delicious sandwiches and offer your feedback on my choices for the same. Cheers to a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2014!

Top 5 Books I Read in 2013:

5. Everything is Perfect When You’re a Liar-Kelly Oxford is hilarious. She is the snarky, adventurous friend you wish you had. Also, bonus points for the Tweet I got from her when I was book shopping.

4. The Burgess Boys- I love Elizabeth Strout’s style. I can’t wait for the HBO miniseries featuring Olive Kitteridge, Ms. Strout’s Pulitzer Prize Winner.

3. The Paris Wife-I wanted to hate this book by Paula McLain about Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley. I love being wrong.

2. The Imperfectionists-Tom Rachman perfectly weaves together short stories from an English language paper in Rome. Virtual high-fives to Rachman for sending me a Facebook message post-review.

1. The Painted Girls- Cathy Marie Buchanan’s historically fictional account of Degas and a family of ballerinas. Amazing story, and the one and only time an author commented on my blog. (This has nothing to do with this book being my number one pick; I sincerely loved it!)

Top 5 Sandwiches on the Road:

5. Basil-Blue Burger-Besties, Burgers, and Beers at the Baja Brewing Company in Cabo san Lucas, Mexico.

4. Wood Street Sandwich-Quality family owned goods in Punta Gorda, Florida.

3. Meatloaf Sandwich-A reminder of my home at Ted’s Montana Grill on my first anniversary.

2. Cuban Reuben-A delicious twist at Maven with my incredibly smart and funny brother in San Francisco.

1. Pot Roast Sandwich-This gift from the Sandwich Gods came to my mouth via Fenway Park in Boston. I am just as shocked as you are. Or ahhhhh……

Top 5 Sandwiches in the Tampa Bay Area:

5. Buffalo Chicken Sandwich- This gem is from Grillsmith. I love this flavor profile, I am usually disappointed with sandwich attempts. Not the case here.

4. Veggie Burger- I have made it no secret that I am a huge fan of the movies, and CinéBistro in Hyde Park  is my favorite date night. Their Veggie Burger rules.

3. Pollo Asado-Bodega on Central in St. Petersburg has the sandwich goods.

2. Frito® Pie Grilled Cheese-Datz in Tampa holds the gastropub crown with a cheesy fist.

1. French Connection- All that is right in the world is represented at Dunderbak’s in Tampa.

Looking forward to 2014!!!!
