Pulled Pork Slider
My search for tasty barbecue in St. Petersburg may have finally ended at Urban Brew and BBQ. Located on Central Avenue, this small venue offers up big flavors.
Thanks to my blogger friend Crystal of http://www.thriftyandfrugalliving.com/ for pointing me in the direction of this wonderful place.
Not only does this restaurant boast a variety of smoked meats and made-from-scratch sides, there is a fairly extensive and affordable craft beer list. I will be back for you, Cherry Wheat. I also love the Augusta bricks behind the bar, from the original streets in St. Pete.
I was lucky enough to sample several of the items Urban Brew and BBQ has to offer. One of the stars of the day was this Kielbasa sausage wrapped in prosciutto and sprinkled with brown sugar. I could eat A LOT of these bad boys.
Some of the other items I tasted were the Pulled Pork (no fat at all and smoked to perfection), the ribs (a pseudo-Memphis style with no fat,and a yummy house rub), the sausage, and my new favorite potato salad (with less mayo and more cream cheese for creamy, dreamy, potato goodness.)
Urban Brew and BBQ offers four delectable sauces to choose from. Good luck with your selection, as the sweet, extra sweet, spicy, and tangy were all finger-licking good. The baked beans were also a highlight for me, as this particular side was peppered with molasses and huge chunks of smoky pork.
Being the gal that I am, I made a sandwich. In a close race, this was my personal favorite of the day. The bread is made locally at Giovanni’s, and I can’t have a pulled pork sandwich without the crunch of cole slaw. Urban Brew and BBQ offers four sliders on the menu if you do not wish to be a builder.
The Mac and Cheese was also tasty business: smoked gouda, cheddar, and parmesan with prosciutto. Simultaneously decadent and comforting .
No meal would be complete without a few specialty desserts. The apple crisp and Ghirardelli Brownie were the perfect sweet end to this savory meal.
Bonus points awarded for purse hooks and the penny floor in the bathroom. The owner Andy is a wealth of meat and beer knowledge.
Urban Brew and BBQ is the perfect spot to grab a cold one before a Rays game or partake in a fast and flavorful lunch. I am so excited to have this place open in St. Pete!
