Pressed Duck Sandwich
We recently spent a magical weekend in downtown Orlando, thanks to Spencer’s Uncle Robert. We were situated right next to Lake Eola. One way to see this beautiful part of Orlando is from a swan paddle boat. If you are familiar with The Lonely Island (one of my favorite groups) you know that I was singing various versions of “I’m on a Boat”.
Post-Swan, The World’s Most Studious Husband (med school is easy) and I went in search of lunch. We ended up in Thornton Park, which reminded me a lot of the Hyde Park area in Tampa. Local restaurants and shops abound, amid a residential area. We happened upon Dexter’s, which is my kind of place. Local artwork adorns the walls, there is a huge bar area, and the waitstaff is friendly.
Spencer ordered the Jalapeño Hoagie: Roast beef, melted provolone, red & green peppers, grilled onions, and jalapenos served pressed “Cuban style.” His sandy came with a salad. My sweet Husband always goes for the Caesar if it is available.
I opted for the garden salad with Feta Ranch (yum!) and the Pressed Duck. Roasted and pulled duckling meat on French bread with grilled onions and melted Brie cheese. Simple and well made.
The only guilt-ridden portion of my day was when we later drove by The Peabody and I pictured that duck parade marching right into my mouth.
If you are ever in the downtown Orlando area, treat yourself to a lovely lunch at Dexter’s. You can always burn off the calories on a swan.
