The Perfect Girl – Gilly Macmillan

I am on the wait list at the local library for Gilly Macmillan‘s What She Knew. While I waited, I decided to try another book by the same author, as it was available immediately.

The Perfect Girl refers to a teenager named Zoe. Zoe is beautiful, has a genius IQ, and an aptitude for playing the piano. She seems to have the best life any 14-year old can imagine. A scholarship to a new school brings in the bullies and a tragic event that can’t be undone.

The story picks up when Zoe is 17. The ‘incident’ is behind her, she has moved to a new town, and she is ready to start her life again. The kickoff to this new life is a piano recital. Sadly, that concert is interrupted and Zoe’s mother winds up dead mere hours later.

We go along for the ride via different view points. The chapters are lightning quick and this is a quick read to find out who is the culprit. There were a few unneccessary characters, but this is a perfect poolside read. Have you read anything by this author? What is on your summer reading list? This one clocked in at #60 for the year for me.20170724_161537
