Muffuletta – Mazzaro’s Italian Market

I ventured with Spencer to Mazzaro’s Italian Market in St. Petersburg thanks to a thoughtful gift card from my brother Rhett and sister in law Tracie. We went on a Saturday, which was the only bad choice we made. Mazzaro’s is crazy busy. I’m not a big fan of being pushed, so I was a little skittish. Thankfully the food more than makes up for such inconveniences. The Muffuletta is one gigantic sandy….piled to the sky with Ham, Mortadella, Salami, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and some amazing Olive spread concotion that I could have scooped into my mouth for days. This bit of heaven was priced at a measly $5. The daily special, a Filet with Red Peppers and Farm Fresh toppings also disappeared with a quickness. (The Sandwich Gal is sad to report that I did not write the specific ingredients down to said sandy, as I was merely hoping for survival.) We also snagged a take and bake lasagna that was too good for words. The food at Mazarro’s is on an upper echelon from most sandwich joints. I am planning to go back..On a Tuesday. During summer. With protective padding.

Somehow I’ve never been there. As soon as I heard muffuletta (which I had to look at your post to spell correctly!), I decided I had to change that and soon! I had the best muffuletta ever in New Orleans, of course, and I didn’t even like olives at the time! I do now and I think it is because of that sandwich. Seriously!

  3. Seriously! We’ll have to hit it in the summer, Alicia.
