The question was: Where to go for the first wedding anniversary when you have budget and time constraints? The perfect answer ended up being a lovely Hyatt in Estero, Florida. Adjacent to our romantic hotel was the Coconut Point Mall, a vast outdoor style chain of buildings filled with every high end store imaginable and endless restaurant choices. Our Saturday lunch choice was a no-brainer: we went to Montana. Ted’s Montana Grilll, that is. I was lucky enough to be born and raised in the Big Sky State. I often get a little homesick, and my sweet Husband has never been to Montana. He has also never seen snow, which boggles the mind.
The restaurant’s interior was decorated lodge style, with the requisite mounted animal heads. I was home. Everyone we came in contact with was also friendly, just like home. While we studied the menu, we were served Almost Pickles. What a delightful alternative to chips or bread.
It was as hot as Hades out, so I opted for a summer cocktail. The Mountain Breeze was perfection. Grapefruit vodka, with small splashes of orange, cranberry, and lime juices.
Ted’s (Mr. Turner for those of you wondering) features an extensive bison menu. When in Rome, you order Bison Nachos. Pepper jack cheese, bison chili, tomatoes,and jalapenos. The flavors hit you from all angles.
The Meatloaf Sandwich was simple and delicious. Thick-sliced bison meatloaf, melted Monterey Jack cheese and grilled onions.
Some day we will make it back to the real-deal Montana for a visit. Until that day comes, I am thankful that my fantastic Husband got a taste of some Montana goodness.
