La Bohème

The libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa for this über famous opera composed by Giacomo Puccini was a must-read for me in the weeks leading up to my attendance at the Straz Center in Tampa. As this will be only my second opera (click here to see my first), I still feel the need to do some research ahead of time.
The story is based on a popular Henri Murger novel. The main characters are Rudolph and Mimi. Rudolph is part of the artsy crowd (he is a writer, he hangs with painters and musicians) who falls hard and fast for the beautiful, sickly, and soul-stirring Mimi. A great sub-story is that of the vixen with a heart of gold, Musetta, and her toxic relationship with Marcel. The story is simple yet tragic. My super smart Husband tells me it is the inspiration for Rent.
I cannot wait to see it played out on stage. It is also my wish to stay awake during the entire performance; as opposed to the “Lost Moments” I experienced at the Met in NYC.
