Italian Tuna Salad Sandwich – Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza

My Husband is many things. He is kind. He is beyond intelligent. He is funny. He is thoughtful. Right at the top of that list? That guy loves pizza. One of his favorite restaurants is Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. He was excited to take me there when we first started dating, many moons ago. On a recent Saturday night, we ventured out to the fairly new South Tampa location. I love the black and white pictures that decorate the walls, the Italian ambience, and the many flat screens for the watching of the sports.

Buonasera, Malbec

Thanks to my check-in on foursquare, we started our meal with two free Coal Oven Roasted Chicken Wings-these were tasty. I am not a big fan of gnawing at meat on a bone, that Sweet Husband was happy to take them off of my picky little hands. I love the addition of the caramelized onions; that is not something I have seen any where else.

The menu at Anthony’s is concise. All items that are represented are done well, with quality ingredients. One of my all-time favorite salads is the Classic Italian Salad. We always add the gorgonzola cheese to the lettuce, eggs, chickpeas, olives, red onion, tomato, celery, and a wonderfully light Italian dressing. It is enormous and more than enough for two. We took about half of this home.

When it is time to order the pie *Husband rubs hands to gather and claps* our go-to order is Pepperoni and Mushroom. Anthony’s traditional pie consists of mozzarella, Italian plum tomatoes, Romano cheese, basil and olive oil. We have also tried the Meatballs and Ricotta, the Eggplant Marino, the Arugula, and the Philly Cheesesteak. All are delightful, and the friendly folks at Anthony’s are happy to make you half-and-half pizzas of whatever your little pizza loving heart desires. The coal-fired process is lightning quick and the taste is just incredible.

The Italian Tuna Salad Sandwich is one of the best I have eaten. It is hard to elevate tuna salad; Anthony’s does it with a delicate hand and layers of fresh flavors. Tuna, lemon, olive oil, tomato & Arugula served on Focaccia bread.

So, if you are looking for a great pie, trust the opinion of my pizza-loving spouse. Lucky for you and me, Anthony’s also offers some fantastic sides and sandwiches.
