Italian Club

I had been meaning to try Flippers Pizzeria in St. Petersburg for quite some time. I had, on more than one occasion, ridden by their 4th Street location and sung various interpretations of that old school 60s series about a dolphin. (Insert some sympathy here for my sweet husband and his endless patience with my horrible singing…..and my obsession with changing lyrics to songs. I am driven by my own personal soundtrack.)

Flippers is super clean. That gets big bonus points with this gal, as I have been witness to some dirty venues as of late. Our waiter was just about perfect on a recent rainy visit. He was attentive, but not too much so. One of my hugest dining-out pet peeves? Feeling rushed. Our fantastic waiter kept things moving, but I never felt the need to hurry.

I enjoyed a local brew from St. Petersburg Brewing Company. I love that Flippers supports the local booming craft beer scene. Cheers!

Spencer simply cannot go into an Italian restaurant and not order some form of bread. Flippers offers several Toscana Breads. He chose the Italian Cheese. This was so tasty!

Provolone, Asiago, Romano, Fresh Basil, Oregano

We both tried salads. Both were solid efforts.

We also sampled a Brick Oven Specialty Pizza. There are several kinds to choose from, and I was happy to see some unique combinations, as well as some Italian classics. We were very happy with our choice.

Arugula and Prosciutto-Fresh Mozzarella, Gorgonzola, Pine Nuts, EVOO, Fresh squeezed Lemon, and Asiago.

My Brick Fired Sandwich was a happy surprise. That nice waiter suggested the Italian Club, and he was right on the money. Ham, Genoa Salami, Pepperoni, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Red Onions, and a delicious Italian Dressing. It was special because they threw all of those cold ingredients into that brick oven and out came sandwich magic. It was a hot mess to eat, but oh so good!

All of the ingredients we came into contact with were super fresh and high quality. My only knock on this place? The prices were a little steep for this type of restaurant. The ambiance, while extremely clean, shouted more “fast food” than “date night”. I will definitely head back and try out there lunch menu, which had some very reasonable options. Then I can sing that happy song again!!

That cheesebread was my favorite part of this meal, Amber!
