How To Be Good

Jan 31

This tome is by British author Nick Hornby (he of About a Boy fame).  The story focuses on a marriage in distress…not because of any one horrible event; what I gleaned from this reading is that eventually all marriages, if they last long enough, will breed a certain amount of contempt just from proximity.  This was good for me…as a person who has never been married, I often romanticize  the fantasy of wedded bliss.  The main character, Kate, was really hard to like.  Perhaps she is the epitome of the English wife, and this American gal just couldn’t relate to her extreme distaste for any type of charity or maternal joy.  Maybe no one is happy? Married or Single?  Depressing thought.  Thanks Hornby, I feel like I need to go and tell someone to sod off.
