GrillSmith

A recent Monday found this lucky gal at the original GrillSmith in Clearwater, Florida, for a celebration of ten years of fantastic food served in a luxurious setting with a family friendly vibe. Let’s just say it was just about as good as a Monday could get.

I have had countless meals at GrillSmith. I am a huge fan of their Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and the Caribbean Pumpkin Crab Bisque is one of my all-time favorite soups. They also have a pretty amazing happy hour from 4-7 daily and Wednesday until 10:00!! The drinks are higher quality than your typical happy hour offerings, and the appetizer selection is perfect for sharing. I personally love the Hob Nob Pinot Noir and the Bodega Norton Malbec; each are only $4 during happy hour! Cheers!

I usually order the same few items, so I was excited to try some of their signature favorites. In honor of GrillSmith’s ten years pleasing palates across Florida, they have brought back some classic dishes. One of the big hits of the night was the Chicken Croquettes. These creamy chicken bites were so addictive. Get your hands and mouth on this appetizer with a quickness; they will only be available until the end of August.

Luckily, you can always order the Spicy Thai Shrimp. Flash-fried shrimp tossed in a sriracha aioli with a honey glaze? All day, please. This was the one item I went back for a second helping. The shrimp are huge and served with the exact right amount of spice. The flavor was not overpowering, and the freshness of the shrimp really shined through.

Corporate chef Joe Guli

The sandwich lover in me enjoyed the Filet Tip Eggrolls. Filet tips, shiitake mushrooms, scallions, bleu cheese, and caramelized onions served with a Dijon-horseradish and a very tasty soy sauce. It was like a high quality steak sandwich in eggroll form.

Another throwback menu item available for a limited time is the Wild Mushroom Pork Scaloppine. This bit of heaven is topped with shrimp Bienville stuffing, a Quattro formaggio cheese blend, and a wild mushroom gravy. This dish is the epitome of comfort food served at a gourmet level.

My hands-down favorite dish of the night was the third classic dish. The Bacon-Wrapped Scallop Delight had so much going on, flavor-wise, and it all worked together in blissful harmony. The topping is the aforementioned Bienville stuffing, and all of this savory goodness is placed atop a roasted bacon corn sauce. Maybe if collectively the whole Tampa Bay area orders this dish all day every day for the rest of August, they will bring it back permanently.

You cannot end a meal without a sweet treat. At the upper echelon of the dessert tier is the Chocolate Decadence cake. This flourless mocha-chocolate cake is topped with fresh chocolate mousse and then served with a raspberry coulis. I was so full at this point in the meal, but I cleaned my plate because it would have been a crime to leave any of that yumminess behind.

Feel free to like them on Facebook; the fine folks at GrillSmith host giveaways regularly. The Croquettes, the Scallops, and the Scaloppine are all available for a limited time. Go for the drinks, stay for the food, and come back for the special way they strive to make their customers feel.
