Grilled Cheese

On my second day in San Francisco, my brother Casey and I walked to The Grove. After a fun filled Friday night, I was in need of quality comfort food. The Grove fit that bill perfectly. (I am also just realizing that I eat an inordinate amount of Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.) The Grove is spacious (for San Francisco) and decorated with hip and beautiful accents. You place your order at the counter, find a seat, serve yourself a drink, and wait for the sandys to come to you. That Saturday the place was pretty full, but we had no problem finding a spot for two people. Casey went with his go-to: The Philly Cheesesteak. The traditional style was kicked up a level by using top-notch flank steak and fontina; the roasted sweet onions and peppers balanced it all out. For a little extra, he added a cup of tomato basil soup.

The star of the lunch was my Grilled Cheese. Cheddar, fontina, and gruyere are just about the perfect combination for a cheese-only grilled cheese. It was just the right amount of gooey and grilled to perfection. I added the vegetarian chili. The flavors were harmonious; the only downside to our whole meal was that the chili was cold.
A short time later we hopped on a bus and ended up at the SFMOMA. A sandwich? My brother? A museum? Add it to the list of Happy Days in My Life.
