Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe

Nov 18

This is a new era classic by Fannie Flagg.  We have all seen the movie; but we all know books are always better than the flick.  All of our favorite characters are here: Idgie, Ruth, Big George, Smokey…but of course the book adds several layers to these characters and has some wonderfully entwined subplots.  (Dot Weems is this gal’s favorite.)  At the end of the day, this story is what most tales are: a love story….Love of self, grief over love lost, love of community, love of career, and the actions and reactions that love pushes us to do.  This is the deep fried southern version of that love theme..beautifully told.
