Cuban Style Cheese Sandy
This fabulous teeny tiny restaurant is close to my gym and to the schoolhouse.
I have had approximately one million sandwiches from here over the years, and the results are always delightful. The decor is pure Florida…..palm tree paintings abound and the sign for the bathroom states, ” Relief Station”. Today I went for the Cheese Combo. The Combo meal comes with a 4 1/2″ pressed sandwich of your choice & a bowl of black beans and yellow rice that I choose to heap chopped onions on top of; all for a steal for under 6 American dollars.
The Cheese Sandwich is piled with Provolone & Swiss American, pickles, lettuce, tomato, & mayo on a most wonderful Cuban bread. It is always a crunchy hot mess to eat, but I can’t truly convey how delectable this sandwich is. Anyone that comes to visit me invariably gets a trip to the Caribbean Cafe. Go to there. Now.
My dad and stepmom came for a visit. I always seem to bring out-of-town guests here!! After a walk through the markets in downtown St. Petersburg, the parents were ready for a sandwich!
The Cuban combo is a must-have if it is your first time at Caribbean Cafe.
As always, I went with the aforementioned Cheese combo and talked my stepmother into the same. Strangely, the folks forgot to put key ingredients on the sandwiches (lettuce, tomato, pickle). It was later rectified, but a bit mystifying. (I should also note that in the inordinate amount of times I have visited prior to this time, that has never happened.)
Come for a visit, who knows where we will be living next year. I promise to take you out for a sandwich if you do!!
