Beef and Bleu
If you are looking for a little piece of crepe heaven, head on over to the Flying Pan in Tampa. We are lucky to have this gem in our midst; Flying Pan is an international cafe, and the one in Tampa is the flagship United States location. The decor is cafe style, with lots of cool Parisian accents. Most importantly, it is clean and welcoming. Patrons grab a menu or look at the giant versions, then step to the front and then order at the counter. Flying Pan offers an eclectic variety of bottled drinks; we just went for the fountain sodas.
The Nicest Husband Ever has been on a spicy kick lately; he chose the Thai Twister for his lunch item. Chicken (you could also get beef or duck), bean sprouts, carrots, basil, mint, thai peanut sauce, and crushed peanuts. I love this flavor profile. It was spicy and done to perfection. A complementary side item for this crepe was the fresh fruit cup.
I chose the Beef and Bleu pressed sandwich. Oui, oui, c’est moi. It was so incredibly delicious! I was so happily shocked. I eat a plethora of sandwiches; most decent, some just bad, and very few superb. I wasn’t really expecting much from a crepe place. This was of the superb variety. Sometimes, it is good to be wrong. Angus beef, blue cheese, sauteed mushrooms, Monterey Jack, caramelized onions, and dijonnaise. Parfait. (I hope you are enjoying my well placed French words; I am enjoying my nasally, snorting accent as I slaughter the Frenchy’s language.) I chose the side salad with an Oriental style dressing.
We were having one of those perfect date lunches with great food and amazing conversation, so we decided we needed a sweet treat to put a cap on our date. The Strawberry Delight was just the ticket. Strawberries, chocolate chips, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and ice cream. A decadent end to a lovely afternoon.
Flying Pan has the best tasting crepes in the Tampa Bay area. The only complaint of the day was from my voracious husband: not enough food.
Flying Pan also offers painting classes on site through https://partyartsy.com/.
If you can’t get to Paris this week, head on over to Flying Pan for quality ingredients, a fun atmosphere, and maybe even embrace your inner Bohemian.
