Casita Taqueria in St. Petersburg is the current home of my favorite taco. Casita Taqueria is located in a teeny tiny house at 2706 4th North. (*Update: They are open at their new location at 2663 Central Avenue.) There are a few tables, a bar area, and not much else. The staff is always super laid-back, friendly, and full of helpful suggestions. The prices are also reasonable for the quality of food. The best appetizer is hands down the Flautas. We went with the chicken. The tortillas are rolled, fried, and topped with salsa and crema. Outstanding.
The Barbacoa (braised beef) Torta was a hot (literal and figural) mess. Beef, black beans, onions, guacamole, cilantro, and pickled jalapenos. The stars of this Mexican show are the tacos. Each yummy bite comes on a fresh homemade corn tortilla. The Pescado came with blackened fish, cabbage, pineapple salsa, crema and cilantro. So refreshing! My favorite is the Chorizo. I sometimes daydream about that spicy sausage, onions, queso fresco, crema, and cilantro perfection.
If you are looking for freshly made Mexican goodness in the homey-est of settings, head on down to Casita Taqueria now.
