Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter – Seth Grahame-Smith

I did not expect to so thoroughly enjoy this book by Seth Grahame-Smith. Between the movie promos and the crazy title, I kind of had to read this story. Mr. Grahame-Smith intricately weaves together bits of actual history with some pretty graphic and entertaining vampire slaying. This seems like an impossible task; but it is so expertly done it is believable. We learn of the inception of Abe’s hatred for the undead. We also ride along for Lincoln’s young adulthood, when he was at the height of taking out vampires. Of course, vampires were also there through his Presidency and The Civil War. The author paints Abe as someone you want to cheer for…..and hang out with. The story is also peppered with sharp humor; at the point where Abe first falls in love he is going on and on about it to Jack Armstrong. Jack just wants Abe to SHUT UP….and he pictures horse manure falling into Abe’s mouth. I relay this to the Fiance: His reply? “That’s probably what they think about you at school, Honey”. If you know me, you know I can’t read straight History Books. This was the most entertaining historical fiction I have been lucky enough to read. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies???? I am coming for you soon.

Update: I loved the movie version. I couldn’t finish Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
